| Achievements :- | | The first four year of operation of this scheme (1985- 86), had budget outlay of Rs. 31.78 crores, covering 24,490 MDM centres and approximately 24.00 lakh beneficiaries. These figures have increased in the year 2009-10 to budget outlay of Rs. 461.84 crore. 39.30 lakh beneficiaries and 32,275 MDM centres. | | All the schools under Government, panchayats, Local Bodies and Grant-in-Aid are covered in this scheme. There are nearly 88,442 organizers, cooks and helpers who are running this MDM programme, out of these 30887 are females, 6,314 widows, 10,831 S.C, and 21,406 S.T. | | If the figures of S.T. beneficiaries i.e. 5.00 lakhs in 1985-86 are compared with the 10.35 lakhs beneficiaries in 2009-10, the spread of the programme in tribal areas clearly proves the need and popularity of the programme. | | Year wise expenditure incurred on MDM and numbers of beneficiaries is shown in Table - I. | | | On the other hand the dropout ratio of students from standard I to VII has reduced from 64,48% in 1990-91 to 10.29 % by 2009-10 as shown in Table - II below. | | | Innovations :- | | | All the centers have constituted MDM committees consisting of the Headmaster of the school, the Sarpanch and four 'representatives' of the parents. The Government Resolution aims to include the parents & representatives. | | | Gujarat had strong social values and community participation in development work.
